Teresa Salgueiro
The concert cycle “Mujeres 28º, 15º”, that brought Cesaria Evora to Lanzarote last month, presents another great concert in February. Teresa Salgueiro, voice of the group Madredeus, presents her solo work La Serena accompanied by the string quintet Lusitana Emsemble. La Serena is a journey around the World with songs from Portugal, France, Italy, Mexico, Brazil and Africa.

Skatoons in The St Valentines Day Mass of Ska
The best Ska band on the island, formed by English and Spanish residents, invites you once again to a night out with the best of Two-Tone Ska from the 80s. Madness, The Specials, The Selecter, Bad Manners and everything you danced to back in the days. Supported by THE NAUTY BOYZ and classic rock band BOULEVARD. Sharon Shannon/Damian Dempsey

Irish folk musician Sharon Shannon will be performing at Charlies Bar in Puerto del Carmen as part of the Magners Irish Sessions. Damian Dempsey will also be performing earlier in the month. Don’t miss these talented artists.

Schola Cantorum de Venezuela
The XXV Festival de Música de Canarias brings another quality classical concert to the island. Schola Cantorum was formed by Maestro Alberto Grau in 1967 in Caracas and since then they have performed works of the Spanish, Italian, French and English Renaissance, German and Italian baroque and by various compositors from Venezuela. 25 records and participation in numerous festivals are only some highlights of a long career. And now they come to San Bartolomé and La Graciosa to offer two concerts.

Ensemble Dario Castello
The VII Ciclo de Conciertos Musicae Candelaria, organized by the cultural association Triangulo de Cuatro Lados, presents a group from Valencia with flute, archlute and cello. As important as the music is the venue, part of a volcanic tunnel 30 metres under the surface.

EXHIBITIONS

Lanzarote is an island that inspires many artists. You can find a lot of exhibitions in public and private art galleries as well as in bars and restaurants. Here a selection of the most interesting ones of this month:

Magma
The German artist Christian Honerkamp is a well-known resident of the island and after his big exhibition in Teguise last year he now presents his colourful paintings in Tías. The title Magma reflects the outburst of colours and strength in his pictures. In the Ermita de San Antonio in Tías, until 7th of February. Monday to Friday 17 to 20 h, Saturday 10 to 14 h.

Polis
The local photographer Rubén Acosta shows photographs in Puerto Calero that were part of the national exhibition Photoespaña in Madrid last year. During a trip to China he combined documental and artistic photography and opens to the watcher a window to a culture full of construction and strange contrasts. In the Art Gallery of Puerto Calero, until end of March, Monday to Friday, 16 to 21 h, Saturday 11 to 21 h.


MOVIES

The small movie theatre Cine Buñuel in the Culture centre El Almacén in Arrecife shows twice a week movies in original versions with Spanish subtitles. The program for this month presents movies from Germany, Serbia and France:

The Jazz movie Cycle in the Biblioteca Insular in Arrecife ends this month with the Spanish movie Tuya Siempre from director Manuel Lombardero (2007).

Fairy tales
New opportunities to hear some Spanish fairy tales for kids are organized by the Tías town hall in February. The dates are as follows:
Tuesday 10th in the library of Tías for kids between 7 and 11 years.
Thursday 12th in the library of Puerto del Carmen for kids between 7 and 11 years.
Tuesday 17th in the library of Tías for kids between 4 and 6 years.
Thursday 18th in the library of Puerto del Carmen for kids between 4 and 6 years.

Ladies Who Lunch Lunch
The LWL will be having a delicious Thai lunch at Casa Siam which will include mixed starters including spring rolls, chicken Satay and vegetable tempura, a main course of Thai chicken yellow curry or beef, ginger and onion or stir-fried vegetables, Thai steamed rice, ice cream and wine. 1 pm Wed 18 February
